Work in progress

Well, I've been working on several pieces at once! Not to be recommended as it's easy to get confused!
Last night I finished off two short pieces - both less than 2000 words - and took the plunge by sending them in for a competition. Although the judges don't give feedback it will be interesting to see if they get placed in the commended group.

So that leaves me with books two and three of my King,God and Country trilogy (Loyalty being book 1) partially written; a historical novel set in the 1730s; a science fiction novella of 17000 or so words, a short speculative fiction story and a bubbling idea about my home town of Bridgwater.

2016 seems to be my year of inspiration. Hope it keeps up!

I think I might also get Loyalty out in paper copy. I won't get any royalties for it given the pricing but I'd like those people who don't do ebooks to be able to get a copy.

Insomnia strikes

Well, its 2.50 am. I cant sleep. It's a pain because I have to go to work in a few hours. Thought through a few more angles on the sci-fi story - got two titles to choose from. Progeny or Mergers and Acquisitions. I'm favouring the latter.
Also going to work up a short children's fantasy piece and a short i started as part of an on-line fiction writing course.

Getting back on track

Well it's been quite a week or so. 10 days ago I suddenly lost the sight in my left eye. Just like that. Lights out.
Thanks to quick and thorough medical care by the fanatastic British NHS I've been treated and am awaiting a biopsy this morning. So it's put rather a brake on my writing as I can't see type.
But when the Muse strikes you can't hold her back and when in my hospital bed I managed to find an old notebook and scrawl a sci-fy story. So, subject to today's surgery going well, I'm going to knock it into shape and publish in the next month or two. I'll keep you updated!
Oh, I now I have a phone with a decent recording app, can't let that Muse go unanswered!

Sudden changes

Well, I would love to say that my books are making progress but unfortunately I suffered a neurological medical problem that left me temporarily blind. Vision returning, tests ongoing but typing is extremely difficult. Frustrating as I was going through a really creative period with short stories and novel ideas flooding through my little brain.
Not giving up so keep watching for new work.

Back to writing Legacy today. Typically couldn't sleep so up with the sun and began reviewing what I've written so far. Made myself cry! And that wasn't just the bad writing! Feeling very motivated to push on now. Target is to get it ready for publication for Christmas.
But, as ever I'm struggling to keep to my original outline. These characters keep uttering dialogue and making decisions I hadn't intended! Bit like your own children!
Decided at 7am to let them have their way for now! Editing will be fun!!!

Winter evenings draw near

Now the summer holidays are behind me I've gone back to my novel. Slight hiatus whilst I turn Loyalty into a TV drama script...
Now the nights are drawing in its the perfect time to sit and type the amazing story of Joan and her two children as they come to terms with the suppression of Catholicism in sixteenth century England.

Getting on with the sequel - Legacy

Finally got back to the sequel to Loyalty. Its been a tough few weeks but I think I have resolved some of my plot concerns now.
I have also been doing lots of what authors frequently do - avoiding writing by concentrating on even more research! in my case an on-line course offered for free by University Of Leicester into the medieval period focusing on Richard III.
Its is fascinating but I must be strong and resist!! I must wrote a few hundred words a day or the book - Legacy - will not be finished ready for Christmas.
